Hernando County Jail

Medications

Interview with Ron and JM

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Ron: Yes. Some would cost if you needed them you had to buy them.
JM: No. You will not be given medication unless you can justify the use. Most people suffer until a symptom gets far worst. There is no in-house doctor.

JM: How did you get your medications?
Ron: The nurse would come around with the med. cart twice a day.
JM: A nurse comes by once a day.

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs?
Ron: Loss of gain time, possible time in confinement. Depending on what type of drugs and how it is being abused, they could tack on another charge and you may have to do more time.
JM: Confiscation. It depended on the drug itself- you're not going to get heavy narcotics in the jail- asprin might be the strongest thing you get.

why do some inmates have on dark red srubs and some have on orange in the pictures? thanks
