Hernando County Jail

Meals

Interview with Ron and JM

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Ron: 3
JM: You get three meals a day.

JM: How would you rate the food?
Ron: Not to die for but they keep you fed. You are able to identify what you are eating. You get small portions, they serve the same meals all the time.
JM: Breakfast was the best meal, normally you got a cereal of some sort, and eggs. Lunch and dinner were the most questionable. The food wasn't great, close to horrible, but if you wanted to stay fed you needed to eat it.

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Ron: Favorite meal was on Mondays if we paid, each inmate received there own large pizza from a local pizza place. Least favorite was there beans, it came with almost every meal.
JM: Biscuits and gravy- looked like Alpo was the worst. Not too much was good, the chicken leg was probably the best meal.

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals?
Ron: Yes, but you had to buy them off commissary, which you were able to order once a week.
JM: You have to purchase them on your own if you want other snacks.
